Abstract

The purpose of this document is to present an action research carried out in the Canary community, one of the five villages that make up the Canary Island, one of more than seventy islands located in the Delta of Parnaíba, Mid North of Brazil. Throughout 2015 and 2016 we conducted a Participatory Inventory with local craftsmen on the ways of know-how related to carnauba straw braids, spe- cifically an artisanal fishing artifact - Uru, a basket used to transport fish. The Inventory intends to contribute to the knowledge, recognition, valorization and promotion of this rich cultural heritage of an intangible nature, recognized by local people, who wish to protect and promote it. Throughout the work we were able to form a group of eleven artisans and artisans, and to dignify the relations between the community and the remaining cultural patrimony of indigenous populations. The construction of the work was done in a collaborative and cre- ative way, anchored in the sharing between the researcher and the knowledge holders; Together we proposed solutions for the protection and promotion of that Cultural Heritage.
