Juventude rural: uma análise do ingresso e permanência no ensino superior

Abstract

This research, developed as a final project for a Pedagogy course, aims to analyze the educational trajectories of rural youth in the process of admission and permanence in higher education, with the Federal University of Delta do Parnaíba as the locus. The specific objectives were organized as follows: a) To explore the educational trajectories of rural youth in search of higher education; b) To investigate the effects of migration of these youth to urban areas; c) To evaluate how public policies serve and involve rural youth in higher education. The discussions and development of the research were structured on theoretical perspectives about rural youth, with the categories definition and characteristics of rural youth, panorama of education in rural areas and social and cultural identity of rural youth. Considering the methodological aspects, the data production process was based on data collected in semi-structured interviews with current and former students at the Federal University of Delta do Parnaíba, organized into three thematic axes: 1) Educational trajectories and adaptation challenges; 2) effects of migration to urban areas; 3) Public policies and educational inclusion. It was found, based on the meanings of rural youth, that they face a feeling of inadequacy when entering higher education. This experience of “not belonging” was shared among the students. However, even with the challenges, among which the most cited was the effect of migration, the search for higher education reflects the value that these young people attribute to education. Despite obstacles and pointing out that public policies are not fully effective, as they do not cover everyone, the students show satisfaction in entering higher education.
